I believe that you are who you are as a person, or in our case a hostel, is that you are what you repeatedly do. As Tai Mitchell Hostel, we have repeatedly set the standard in terms of co curricular and academic excellence and this continues to grow and develop with each year. 2019 started with our more extensive hostel of 140 boarders and 31 Year 9 boarders. A huge achievement in itself and reflects the outstanding work by our boarders in 2019.
This year has been larger than most, not only through the boarder numbers that have been settled over the year but also in the opportunities that have been presented to us. We have relicensed the hostel till July 2022 which undertakes a massive review of all systems and documents. We welcomed the BOT and Senior management through for the Faculty Review which is a special time and, of course, the Application, filming and judging for the Prime Minister's Awards 2019. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate everyone on our recognition at the highest level. I often get asked what am I most proud of in regards to winning the Awards. I always state that I am most proud of the staff and boys and how we were presented an opportunity, knowing that it is a likely a one off for us, knowing that this is the big time and knowing that as a group we will never get this opportunity again. Not only did we take the opportunity but we excelled and 2019 will always be remembered as the year that Tai Mitchell Hostel stood at the very top.
I would like to thank our strong and courageous group of Prefects who have led with distinction in 2019. As a group of young men, you have been an absolute pleasure to work alongside and your leadership has seen Tai Mitchell Hostel grow even stronger. A special thank you to Nirai and Zach Ririnui. Your leadership and presence in Tai Mitchell Hostel since year 11 has inspired those around you and our Hostel will forever be stronger for your guidance. We wish you both the very best in your new adventure with the Bay Rugby Academy. To the Year 13 and 14 Boarders who are moving onto some wonderful opportunities, I thank you and wish you all the best. You are amazing men and you are ready for the next stage in your life. I have numerous stories to remember you with and you will all be certainly missed.
To our awesome staff, thank you and congratulations. We have had a huge year and you have shouldered everything I have thrown at you with a smile and dedication that needs to be commended. Special mention and Thank You to Mr and Mrs Hay who are moving into their new home in Springfield. You have added great value to our hostel and thank you so much for everything you have done.
