CITIZENSHIP & LEADERSHIP

Citizenship is developed by the special traditions and values that our school promotes. Opportunities are provided to our young men that we believe prepare them for the important future role they must play in the community.

Citizenship & Leadership

Citizenship at Rotorua Boys’ High School is about understanding your responsibility to contribute positively to your school, your whānau, and your wider community. A good citizen shows integrity, takes ownership of their actions, supports others, and upholds the values of the school even when no one is watching. It means standing up for what is right, looking after the environment you are part of, and recognising that your behaviour reflects not just on yourself, but on your team, your house, and your school.

Rotorua Boys’ High School has a proud tradition of producing strong leaders and places a deliberate focus on leadership development at every year level. Leadership here is not reserved for a select few — it is cultivated in classrooms, on the sports field, in cultural groups, in service opportunities, and within our house system.

All students are encouraged to step forward, take responsibility, and influence others in a positive way. Whether leading a team, mentoring younger students, representing the school, or simply modelling the right standards each day, our young men are expected to act with integrity and courage. Through these experiences, they learn that true leadership is about service, accountability, and setting the example others can follow.
