This year, we enjoyed the 22nd annual visit from Shiba Boys’ High School in Tokyo, Japan. Every year, 24 students, accompanied by their teachers, stay with Kiwi families to experience life and schooling in Rotorua. During their time at Rotorua Boys’ High School, the Shiba students immersed themselves in school life where they learned how to do the school haka, Maori carving and cooking New Zealand style. They also played Rugby and improved their proficiency in English.
Many of the activities were outside their comfort zone and they took back home many valuable memories of their time here at Rotorua Boys’ High School.
The Shiba visit is a special event for the students of Rotorua Boys’ High School also, as many of the Year 11 students and the host families involve themselves in the activities and form strong and lasting friendships.
